Marvel's 'Cloak & Dagger' showrunner already wants a 'Runaways' crossover

Marvel’s newest show Cloak & Dagger won't begin its newest run until this June, but that’s not stopping showrunner Joe Pokaski from envisioning a future crossover with Hulu’s Runaways.

I mean, why not? Both Marvel shows are airing on Hulu, and Marvel is pretty big into cross-overs these days — look no further than Avengers: Infinity War for evidence of that.

“It was really important for the first season to really establish Tandy and Tyrone, even as people before they became superheroes,” Pokaski said while speaking at WonderCon, via Syfy Wire. “But I’m a big fan of what Josh [Schwartz] and Stephanie [Savage] did on Runaways and we’re always talking about ‘When do we get to do our crossover?’ There’s probably 400 lawyers in the way…I’m excited for however Cloak & Dagger can play in the universe.”

Alright, just for the record, when I spoke to Runaways star Ryan Sands last fall and asked him about any possible crossovers that were down the pipeline, Cloak & Dagger came up — meaning this might actually already be in the works at this point.

While the crossover isn’t totally confirmed at this point, the second season of Cloak & Dagger pretty much has been.

“Season 1 is really about them emotionally and where they’re coming from,” he said via Den of Geek. “Probably a slightly slower bake than most TV shows about what the origin story is and learning to use your powers but, as we kinda turn the corner into season 2, we’re gonna deal with almost all of that and hopefully in a real way that’ll help save more and more people.”

So far, everything coming out of Cloak & Dagger seems like good buzz. I’m all for a bit of a slower first season if it means setting up the characters in a proper way, and Pokaski is clearly thinking about the future of Cloak & Dagger already, meaning he’s most likely got some plan mapped out.

Yes, it’s confusing how Marvel now has a television universe on both Hulu and Netflix, but let’s not worry about that and just be thankful we’re getting so much good content from them.
