Hadestown will open at the National Theatre in London before the musical opens on Broadway in 2019
Hadestown is a musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell and co-developed and directed by Rachel Chavkin. Chavkin was a Tony nominee in 2017 for directing Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.
“Road to Hell” opening number in the off-Broadway production sets the tempo and introduces the characters of the musical.
The production will move across the pond in November and will be followed by a Broadway run. The dates of the National Theatre performances will be Nov. 2, 2018, to Jan. 26, 2019, at the Olivier Theatre.
The musical story alternates between the above-ground world and the underworld of Hades.

The musical takes the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice (Yoo-rid-uh-see) and turns it on its head by setting it in an apocalyptic musical, blending modern American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz.
Our tale follows Orpheus on his quest to gain back his one true love Eurydice who is in the underworld with Hades. He must also face Hades in order to win her back and bring her to the human world. Persephone appeals to her husband on Orpheus’s behalf.
Mitchell’s melodies and “poetic imagination pit nature against industry, faith against doubt, and love against fear,” as acclaimed by Broadway World. "Hadestown delivers a fantastic piece of theatre!"
Following the premiere of the musical at the New York Theatre Workshop in May 2016, the musical had its first Canadian run at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton in November 2017.
