Swedish DJ and EDM producer Avicii died because of losing excessive blood from self-inflicted wounds with a piece of glass from a broken bottle of wine, according to reports.
The troubled musician, whose real name was Tim Bergling, died at the age of 28 on April 20 in Oman where he was holidaying with his friends.
His family wrote an open letter that Bergling could no longer battle thoughts about Life, Meaning and Happiness and longed for peace, last week. The statement also said:
"When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music.”
Tim’s family was aware of his deteriorating mental health. It was erratic but got worse when he was in Oman, “When they spoke to Tim on the phone, they got worried. The family understood that it was bad and that they had to act.”
“The plane landed two hours after Tim passed away,” said a source close to Tim’s family.
There have been numerous reports on how Avicii committed suicide. Two sources report that he slit his throat and one said that he cut his wrist. The exact location of the injury is yet to be confirmed.
Avicii had written a letter to his fans announcing his retirement from music in 2016. However, he still continued to release music. Before his death, Avicii was in the process of having talks about a new project with Geffen Records president Neil Jacobson.
The Stockholm-born Avicii had been suffering from many health problems for years. These health problems were primarily caused by stress and alcohol abuse as well as severe anxiety. He was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis due to excessive drinking at the age of 21.
In 2014, he went under the knife to have his appendix and gallbladder removed.
Avicii’s family in the open letter also says that “Tim was not made for the machinery he ended up in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans, but shunned the spotlight.”
Avicii gained popularity during his short career, earning $28 million in 2014 alone. However, he never cared much about his millions and said he didn’t need that much money.
The musician would now be remembered for giving hits like ‘Wake Me Up!,’ ‘You Make Me,’ and recently ‘Lonely Together,’ which was a recent number in collaboration with Rita Ora.
