Every season of American Horror Story seems to promise that this one will be their biggest and most high-concept yet.
This time, it might actually be true. Ryan Murphy took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that the next American Horror Story will be a crossover between “Murder House” and “Coven.”
The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won't be happening next year...because it's happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER

“The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won’t be happening next year…because it’s happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER,” he wrote.
It’s still unclear how much of a crossover this will be, as the only thing Murphy has revealed up to this point is when he told Entertainment Weekly that "There will be characters from ‘Murder House’ and characters from ‘Coven’ together.”
Judging by the tweet, it seems to suggest that ‘Coven’ will be the more significant storyline of the two.
It does, however, raise the question that we’ve all been asking ourselves since "Asylum" came out — how are they are going to crossover these two shows when the same actors appear in each season, playing a different character?
In some places, it almost seems like they can get away with it. Evan Peters plays such a radically different personality, that it wouldn’t feel all that jarring if Tate Langdon came face-to-face with someone like Kyle Spencer.
On the other hand, Taissa Farmiga’s Violet Harmon and Zoe Benson, more or less, have the same personality and look almost exactly alike.
I’m sure Murphy can find a way to work around it, I’m just curious what his play is. “Murder House” is, hands down, the best season that American Horror Story has put out so the thought of returning to those characters really excites me.
Murphy’s pretty excited about the whole thing too. Earlier at a press event this year, he told Comicbook.com that “one of the greatest joys of my life is doing this show. This great group of actors who come together and get to know each other, and trust each other, and go to places…I just love the ability to reach out to people who I love, love, love and say, ‘Hey, would you like to come play in our sandbox?’”
Season eight of American Horror Story will air on FX this fall.
Do you think a “Murder House” and “Coven” crossover is a good idea? Which characters are you excited to see return? How do you think they’ll pull off the whole actor situation? Let us know in the comments below!
