Actress Tessa Thompson, known for Creed and Dear White People, came out as bisexual in an interview published Friday.
She added that she and Janelle Monae "love each other deeply," but avoided putting labels on their relationship.
During the interview with Net-a-Porter, the actress shared some insights into her dynamic with Monae. She said, "We’re so close, we vibrate on the same frequency. If people want to speculate about what we are, it doesn’t bother me.”
Just a few weeks ago, Monae, known for Hidden Figures, came out as queer in a Rolling Stone story, according to Huffington Post. She also mentioned she identifies with aspects of bisexuality and pansexuality.
Thompson thanked her family for their continued support, saying, according to the interview, “I can take things for granted because of my family ― it’s so free and you can be anything that you want to be. If I bring a woman home, [or] a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion.”
Thompson later took to Twitter to clarify her remarks:
Sometimes we cheer so loudly at someone speaking their truth, that we miss what they say. (Here’s looking at you media journalism). I didn’t say I was in a relationship. But I said lots of other things. All below. One thing I missed — Pride Has No End. x https://t.co/yEd0Ep6K17
