'Billionaire Boys Club' opens with a lousy $618

Billionaire Boys Club, the crime flick starring Kevin Spacey, Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton and Emma Roberts, reaped an atrocious opening weekend profit of $618.

Billionaire Boys Club, despite touting four A-list actors as its main cast, seemed doomed to fail. On top of Spacey’s sexual assault allegations that first came to light in October 2017, the film released in only 11 theaters across the United States—after being released through video on demand in July, a full month before its theatrical premiere.

This is the latest drop in Spacey’s fall from grace following the sexual assault accusations. He was fired from his starring role in Netflix’s House of Cards. Then his appearance was cut from Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World and replaced by Christopher Plummer, who earned an Oscar nomination for his performance.

Billionaire Boys Club is based on the true story of a group of young men and a get-rich-quick scheme in the '80s that quickly turned fatal.

Fun fact: The lowest opening on record is ZYZZYX ROAD starring Tom Sizemore and Katherine Heigl which was released in 2006 and made $30 in one theatre worldwide the ONE WEEK it was out.
