Patrick Stewart has confirmed his return as Captain Jean-Luc Picard at this year’s Star Trek convention.
At Star Trek Las Vegas, he and executive producer Alex Kurtzman teamed up to announce the new series. The announcement was met with thrilled applause.
Captain Picard, of course, was the beloved star of Star Trek: The Next Generation, who went on to appear in several feature Star Trek films. After word got out of CBS planning four new Star Trek series, rumors flew of Stewart’s return.
According to the Star Trek Twitter, his return will revolve around the “next chapter of Jean-Luc Picard’s life:”

This series will be available on CBS All Access, CBS’ digital streaming service. Currently, Star Trek: Discovery, which is set about ten years before the start of Captain Kirk’s five-year mission in the original Star Trek, is available on All Access. The other Star Trek series in the works will likely be All Access offerings, too.
