'Streets of Rage 4' announced with reveal trailer

Streets of Rage

Streets of Rage is finally back with an all-new video game!

Streets of Rage 4 has been officially announced by developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games. A trailer was released Monday for the new entry in the popular arcade series and it's got everyone buzzing.

Streets of Rage is the classic beat 'em series first published by Sega in the early '90s. One of the most popular games in Sega's history, we haven't seen a new entry since 1994...until now!

In the trailer, we see Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding in a pretty cool cinematic. We also get a quick snippet of gameplay as they beat up on some familiar bad guys. No other main characters are shown but that doesn't mean they won't be in. I would expect both Adam Hunter and series big bad Mr. X to be announced soon. Maybe even Skate will make his return.

Even with no new games in the last two decades, the legacy of Streets of Rage has lived on. Comic books and novellas have been released based on the series. The acclaimed soundtracks from the games were released on CD as well. Recognized as some of the best video game music of all time, the soundtracks now sell for high prices at auction. A feature film and TV series are said to be in the works as well.

On a personal note, Streets of Rage was one of my favorite games when I was a kid. The beat 'em style and setting along with the characters was a recipe for hours of being told to go play outside. I'm sure it will be more of that when part 4 hits platforms.

No other news was announced with the reveal trailer, so we will have to wait to see what platforms it will be available for as well as storylines and other characters. Just the announcement of Street of Rage 4 is enough to send the video game world into a frenzy and I cannot wait for more news to come out.
